two women,

Mother and daughter. Intricate harmonies, intimate storytelling, raw-edged folk-pop.

mothertongue make music for the things women carry – the love, the grief, the rage, the tenderness, the inheritance.

About

mothertongue is a mother-daughter, singer-songwriter duo from Southern Tasmania, Australia

With genetically-enhanced harmonies, powerful storytelling and an instinct for emotional honesty, mothertongue make music that cuts close to the bone. Somewhere between folk, indie and chamber-pop, their songs carry a unique combination of warmth, humour, intimacy and truth-telling — inviting listeners into the world of two women who have been singing together for a lifetime.

Audrey brings over three decades of experience as a singer, songwriter and choir director. A long-time member of The Clementines, she has performed regularly at festivals and venues across Tasmania for the past decade. She is also the founder of UpliftSinging and directs four vibrant community choirs that perform regularly around Hobart and Southern Tasmania.

Rose is a classically trained violist and violinist turned singer-songwriter. She spent five years performing as a backing vocalist for acclaimed jazz singer Frances Madden and recently performed at the 2026 Cygnet Folk Festival. Rose is also an actor and filmmaker, and recently completed her first original film score for her upcoming psychological drama Dissonance.

mothertongue are currently recording their debut album, set for release in late 2026.
